Sea Navigation

Kearfott’s family of Seaborne Navigation (SeaNav) products provide high accuracy navigation and control for surface ships, submarines, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs), Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), and ship radars. These products are fully qualified for sea operations and environments and are available as Inertial Navigation System (INS) or Sea Navigation Kits. All of our Sea Navigation products are built with a modular architecture providing scalable inertial performance while allowing significant size constraints to be realized. Additionally, the sea navigation products are able to integrate with a wide variety of aiding devices such as GPS, Doppler Velocity Log, Speed Log, Sonar, and position inputs.

Sea Navigation System

Kearfott’s SeaNav System offers a mature sensor solution while providing a modular architecture allowing maximum flexibility for the Sea Navigation Market. The SeaNav Inertial unit contains a Monolithic Ring Laser Gyro (MRLG) and MOD VIIA pendulous accelerometers enabling the SeaNav to provide accurate heading, attitude, velocity, and position information required for navigation. The SeaNav has the capability to integrate with a wide variety of aiding devices such as GPS, Doppler Velocity Log, Speed Log, Sonar, and position inputs. The modular design allows the SeaNav to be offered at scalable accuracies while maintaining the interface and mounting footprint.

Kearfott’s navigation-grade T24 SeaNav Inertial Navigation System for surface and subsea marine vehicles and platforms has a commercial export classification, making obtaining export licenses faster and more affordable.

  • Lightweight package
  • Multiple aiding inputs: Embedded GPS, external GPS, Doppler Velocity Log (DVL), Depth Sensor and position inputs
  • On-the-move alignment with valid GPS
  • Vehicle stabilization control outputs, including angular rates and linear accelerations
  • Multiple communication interfaces, including RS-232, RS-422, and optional MIL-STD-1553
  • Flexible installation
  • Configurable for platform requirements
  • Accurate navigation and performance during mission scenarios
  • T24 SeaNav has a commercial export classification (ECCN 7A003.a.1), making obtaining export licenses faster and more affordable

Sea Navigation Kits

Kearfott’s Sea Navigation Kits are fully qualified sea inertial navigators and offer a mature sensor solution in a modular architecture allowing maximum flexibility for the operational user. Kearfott’s SeaNav Kit includes an Inertial Sensor Assembly (ISA) and the Inertial Electronic card set to allow full functionality when integrated in the users’ platform. The ISA contains a Monolithic Ring Laser Gyro (MRLG) and three MOD VIIA pendulous accelerometers, enabling the ISA to generate angular rates (Δθ) and linear accelerations (Δ v). The SeaNav Kit has the capability to integrate various onboard aiding devices such as GPS, Doppler Velocity Log, Speed Log, Depth Sensor, Sonar and position inputs to provide additional aiding during operation. The SeaNav Kit provides a unique platform-based solution which allows the platform to design the SeaNav Kit into available space claims to meet the mission scenario.

  • Light-weight package
  • Compact sensor solution
  • Multiple aiding inputs: embedded GPS, external GPS, Doppler Velocity Log (DVL), Depth Sensor and position inputs
  • On the move alignment with valid GPS
  • Vehicle stabilization control outputs including angular rates and linear accelerations
  • Multiple communication interfaces including RS-232, RS-422, and optional MIL-STD-1553
  • Ease of integration into existing form factors
  • High-reliability, low life cycle cost
  • Configurable for platform requirements
  • Accurate navigation and performance during mission scenarios
